On 16th December, good news came from Yutai Gas Co., Ltd. located in handan city Hebei province that the first COG methantion to CNG plant in China with production capacity of 30000Nm3/h had been smoothly running for 12 days and quality CNG had been produced continuously meeting the standard of nature gas for home use (GB17820-2012) and compressed nature gas for car use (GB18047-2000. The technology provider of this plant is SWCHEM who is also the catalysts supplier and Sichuan Tianyi Science and Technology Co., Ltd., who provides engineering. The success of this plant opens up a new method to use COG with high efficiency, by which waste gas with high pollution is used to produce clean energy at the same time greenhouses gas emission can be reduced. As the result, technological progress of coking industry should be facilitated; environment and ecology should be protected and sustainable development should be promoted.
Mr. Xie Yongli, the deputy commander in chief of this plant told to reporter happily “on 4th December, quality product was obtained after one time commission. Till now a first batch of quality CNG has been sold. A month later, SNG product will enter to city gas pipeline of Handan. Multi-channel for sales of product will meet the market demand”. As Mr. Chen Mangui, the general manager of this project owner, Yutai Gas Co. Ltd. introduced “the total investment of this plant is about RMB 200 million with building period 18 months. This plant has been put into operation successfully just after one time commission. The continuous and smooth operation of this plant shows that the technology adopted is advanced, reliable, mature, and with low energy consumption &good economic benefit. Via this plant every year, 100 million cubic meter SNG will be produced and the sales income would be up to RMB 300 million, at the same time a lot of emission will be reduced including 900 k tons CO2, 726 Tons SO2 and 10 tons dust.
Since 2006, SWCHEM started to preformed research and development on methanation catalyst and thereof process for COG to SNG, and completed lab and pilot research step by step. In May 2010, the technology was passed the appraisal organized by Science & Technology Department of Sichuan Province. Concerning this technology, 10 pieces of patents was applied and 5 pieces was granted. Its technical indexes were better than those of her counterparts home and abroad. The economic & social benefit, energy saving and emission reduction of commercializing this technology is eminent. Until now, SWCHEM, together with its partner Sichuan Tianyi Science and Technology Co. Ltd., have licensed more than 10 enterprises to commercialize this technology. In addition, feasibility study reports on this technology have been provided to more than 30 enterprises.
Days before, Secretary of Hebei Provincial Party Committee had went to inspect this project and instructed : “the main task to protect environment and realize resource recycle is to build chemical plants under guide of circular economy. This plant is meaning for province like Hebei and shanxi, where coking production is at large quantity and nature gas is on shortage. The plant as the demonstration of Hebei province, accords to national industry policy. Via this plant, COG as waste gas can be used and disparities between supply and demand of nature gas can be released effectively at the same time pollution will be reduced and low carbon economy will be realized.”
As pointed out by experts of this trade: “under pressure of low coking price and environmental pollution, to explore the use of coking oven gas is essential to every coking enterprise’s survival and development. By using this COG methanation to SNG technology, every year 20 billion cubic meters of COG will be collected and used to produce 8.5 billion cubic meters SNG, which will forcefully help to recycle industrial vent gas as resource and promote energy saving and emission reduction. Form the energy structure of China, the nature gas is relatively on shortage, using coke oven gas to produce SNG is clean and with high efficient, which is also the essential part of national energy substitution strategy. It has great meaning to restructure coking industry and build society of energy-saving and environmental-friendly. ”
