SWCHEM Won China Patent Excellence Award Again

On July 14, the State Intellectual Property Office issued its decision on the 21st China Patent Award. Patent of the Southwest Chemical Institute Co., Ltd. (SWCHEM), "Catalyst system for synthesizing acetic acid by methanol low-pressure carbonylation and its application" was awarded "The 21st China Patent Excellence Award". This is the sixth time SWRCHEM has won this honor.

The synthesis of acetic acid by methanol low-pressure carbonylation is a key technology in the modern coal chemical industry. In the reaction process, catalyst research is the most critical task. The patented technology features outstanding innovation in improving catalyst performance, optimizing process flow, improving production efficiency, and reducing energy consumption. The advancement is reflected in the leap in production capacity of acetic acid plant, reduction of production costs, and improvement in economic indicators, ensuring technical advantages and competitive edge.

The acetic acid synthesis from methanol carbonylation technology, which was developed independently by SWCHEM, has reached internationally advanced level. This technology was marketed through a "technology licensing + technical service" business model. A strong record of market proven success was achieved. The technology has been licensed to build a total of 8 industrial plants in China and has been licensed to multinational companies, creating good economic and social benefits. Since the implementation of the patented technology, the technology monopoly established by foreign companies was broken down. This technology is a strong contribution to the technical advancement and industrial development of the acetic acid industry in China.
