On July 5, 2017, “CO2 to natural gas key technology”, a sub project of the National Program of 863 Plan “Coal Flue Gas CCUS key Technology” passed project acceptance evaluation organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The project aims to conduct research on application of CO2 bioconversion, conversion to clean fuels, geological storage, efficient absorption and separation technologies; and to develop key technologies of CCUS for coal-fired flue gas; and then to carry out some industrial demonstrations. The project organizer is Zhejiang University.
Our institute undertakes the branch project “Conversion of Carbon Dioxide to Natural Gas", which aims to develop key technology of nature gas production from CO2 blended coke oven gas so as to meet the technological demand of carbon capture and utilization in China. By carrying out the project, SWRDICI has developed key technologies in coking oven gas and CO2 to natural gas including development of methanation catalyst, catalyst preparation equipment design and construction, methanation process and reactor development, methanation plant pilot test, engineering design package development, combined with coke oven gas deep purification and purification of CO2 to form a complete set of technology for methanation of CO2 blended coke oven gas to produce SNG/CNG /LNG. In Qian'an, Hebei, a 100000Nm3/h CO2 blended coke oven gas methanation to LNG plant have been put into operation. The plant serves to demonstrate a comprehensive utilization of coke oven gas and CO2 and a significant promotion effect is already achieved.
