In August, our company filed 14 applications for 2017 Science and Technology Planning Project of Sichuan province under 8 categories. Including the 6 carried-over projects, 20 projects have been filed and carried out this year. Compared with numbers of the 3 most recent years, provincial project applications have achieved an increase of 133%.
While SWRDICI pushes forward applications to national science and technology projects, a strong emphasize is also placed in applying for Sichuan provincial and Chengdu municipal projects. At SWRDICI, Department of Science and Technology Planning and research departments view projects application as a pivot point in promoting technology innovations and work together to prepare them. Through careful analysis of the 8 types in the 4 categories of projects(fundamental research application, key area research and development, scientific results commercialization, platform for innovation) outlined in Sichuan 2017 Science and Technology Planning Project guideline. Department of Energy Engineering and Department of Separation and Purification filled an application for “Research on structure and activity relation and rational design of Pd based alloy catalyst for deep removal of oxygen in alkene rich gas” project and two other projects to the fundamental research application category. Department of Gas Engineering, Department of Carbonyl Research and Department of Fine Chemical filled project “Catalyst for acrylic acid synthesis from acetic acid and formaldehyde” alone with two other projects to the high-tech industrialization category.
Department of Emerging Business filed project “The construction and application of environmentally friendly prevention and control system for soil-borne diseases of vegetables”. Department of C-1 Chemistry & Chemical Engineering and Department of Carbonyl Research filed project “Preparation of dimethyl carbonate from CO2 utilizing process intensification by micro-reactor” alone with another project to the provincial industry-university/institution cooperation category. Department of Energy Catalysis filed an application for project “CNJ-5a methanation catalyst” to the key new product category. Department of Gas Separation and Purification filed project “Innovation service platform of gas separation and purification technique” to the fundamental research application category. Department of Energy Catalysis and Department of C-1 Chemistry & Chemical Engineering filled “Deep purification and methanation technique of pyrolysis gas from low-rank coal” alone with another project to Science and Technology Fund for Young Researcher. Department of C-1 Chemistry & Chemical Engineering filed project “innovative research group for clean, efficient carbon resource utilization and directional transformation of carbon to alcohol/ether fuel” to Science and Technology Fund for Young Research Team project. Besides, the Chengdu industrial cluster collaborative innovation project of ‘waste water and sludge treatment and development by energy efficient and environmental friendly equipments’ has passed its defense.
According to the research management staff, Sichuan province’s science and technology planning focuses on industries with strong potential to boost innovation, support transformation and provide driving force for growth of high end or local industry. It also emphasizes on innovations over key generic technologies which have systematic impact over industries, technologies that bring strong driving force as well as innovations that aim to solve bottleneck problems of society and economy development. The projects filled should be innovative, technologically advanced (globally advanced or domestic leading). The projects should promote competitiveness of related industries, and drive the development of local society. Through company wide deployment and strategic planning, individual research departments took advantages of their specialized skills to independently apply their own projects. This process is an excellent exercise for research and development staff since it promoted the enthusiasm of our staff and also helped improve young researcher’s professional skills in filling project applications.
