Brief introduction
N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAC) is a colorless, transparent liquid that is miscible with water and has a high boiling point and is a common organic chemical solvent. It is miscible with most solvents and is often used as a solvent, with applications in the cohesives industry and as a reaction medium for some drugs and plasticizers. Spandex and acrylon production calls for a large amount of DMAC.
It has high thermal stability, hydrolysis stability, and a high boiling point, with low corrosiveness and toxicity, as compared with homologous DMF. There is a tendency toward replacing DMF. We hold two patents on this technology.
Technical features
This process uses a tank reactor, batch reaction, and continuous rectification and separation to refine the DMAC product. It works as follows: raw material methyl acetate, assistants, and catalysts are added to the tank reactor, dimethylamine is added by a metering pump, and, after the reaction, the mixture goes through a dimethylamine removal tower, a methanol tower, and a DMAC tower for the final product.
Special features include: natural pressure rise of excessive dimethylamine and batch reaction, full use of raw material properties, reduced the number of pressure devices, and lower cost. It uses continuous distillation, diminishes the hydrolysis of methyl acetate and the decomposition of DMAC, and increases product yield. This process can also use acetic acid or ethyl acetate as a raw material, with some differences.

Waste treatment
The distillation residue of DMAC, containing acetic acid, can be used as a byproduct after neutralization with NaOH, filtration, and drying. After distillation and treatment of the filtrate, environmental protections requirements can be met.
