Production of methanol from coal-mine gas

Brief introduction

Coal-mine gas is generated during coal mining, with the methane content of most coal mines being around 30 - 60 percent of the gas, which also consists partly of air. Two things justify the recovery of coal-mine gas: coal-mine safety and cutting methane emissions into the atmosphere. Recovered coal-mine gas can be used as energy or raw material for chemicals.

By using the technology we developed for producing hydrogen and liquid ammonia out of coal mine gas, the deoxidation of coal-mine gas is not needed; water vapor and air or pure oxygen can be directly added depending on the methane concentration in the coal mine; autothermal reforming can be done on the CN-36 autothermal reforming catalyst to produce synthetic gas; and the generated synthetic gas can be used to produce hydrogen or synthesis ammonia.

Technical features and capacity

1.High-performance, heat resistant catalyst for methane reforming

The catalyst used for methane reforming has heat resistance, a stable structure, and high conversion rate.

2.Methanol synthesis catalyst

The C312 series of high-performance methanol catalyst is highly stable and highly selective.

3.Advanced technology and low energy consumption

Advanced reforming technology is used, heat is fully recovered and synthesis gas is purified by PSA technology. The methanol synthesis process uses a reasonable hydrogen/carbon ratio and can employ multi-stage, series-reaction technology.

4.Capacity: 50~300kt/a

Technical indicators

The autothermal reforming catalyst is not sintered at 1,300℃ and the methane conversion rate is ≥99 percent;

Resulting methanol meets the national GB338-2004 standard.
