Two-step formamide production from methanol and ammonia process

Brief introduction

Formamide is an important organic solvent and organic chemical raw material used mainly for pharmaceutical intermediates, fragrances, dyes, paper conditioning agent, fiber softening agent, and gelatin softener.

Technical features

Methyl formate obtained through methanol dehydrogenation takes a continuous amination reaction with liquid ammonia and, after dealcoholization and rectification of the reaction liquid, product formamide is obtained.

Waste treatment

Hydrogen byproduct can be used directly as fuel or as a raw material for hydrogenation after PSA purification. The residual rectification liquid containing formamide is incinerated.
